The summers are here and most of us love getting a good natural tan. However, the scorching heat can leave anyone with a harsh sunstroke. From intense sunburns to dehydration and fatigue, the heat can take a toll on the body in multiple ways. In order to fix the sunstroke, it is important if you know what exactly it’s being caused by.
These are the symptoms that you need to observe:
- Increased body temperature
- Nausea and vomiting
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Weakness
- Flushed skin
- Rapid breathing
- Increased heart rate
- Muscle cramps
- Abdominal cramps
- Lack of sweat or sweating heavily
There are a few easy to go home remedies that will help you to treat your sunstroke. These are:
Buttermilk
As simple as it sounds, buttermilk really has a cooling effect on the body which helps get rid of the dehydration and weakness. Drinking 1-2 glasses of cold buttermilk mixed with cumin powder is highly recommended during the summers. Buttermilk is extremely rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals and hence keeps the body fresh and away from weakness or fatigue.
A cold shower
Cooling your body down physically is as important as cooling it down internally. A cold water bath freshens the body up. It helps in lowering the body temperature before any other treatments can be used. This is mostly a first-aid measure and does not effectively take the stroke away on its own. It’s also advised to not take an ice-cold bath since that will drastically drop the body temperature and create more problems like a fever.
Essential oils
Essential oils, specifically lavender oil, peppermint oil, almond oil, and olive oil are extremely beneficial in times of a heatstroke. Mixing all these oils together and then applying them on your body can create immense relief. To ensure extra relief, these must be applied and gently massaged onto your scalp and on the soles of your feet. Essential oils have a soothing effect and also significantly lower body temperature. They also create a stronger nervous system which can cope with a sunstroke.
Onion juice
Onion juice can either be applied or consumed upon a sunstroke. Right after experiencing it, you can apply onion juice to different body parts and let it rest. This works only once right after the sunstroke. Or, you can mix some onion juice with honey and have one tablespoon of it to cool your body down internally. You can consume this for about 2-3 days after the sunstroke and it will have the cooling effect nonetheless.
Tamarind juice
For this, you will have to prepare a herbal concoction by boiling tamarind and straining its liquid juice. Then, you can add a little honey for good taste. Drinking this as soon as symptoms of sunstroke are seen is the most beneficial. Dehydration causes the depletion of electrolytes and nutrients in the body that are restored and fulfilled by tamarind and honey juice along with cooling the body down.
A few other home remedies for treating a sunstroke are:
- Coriander juice
- Apple cider vinegar
- Sandalwood paste
